Radio Access Panel

Well, there is not a lot to pass on to our visitors this month. We are still in the process of charting our future. We hope to be able to pass on to all our supporters what will be the way ahead for the next several years shortly. But until then we continue to work on the restoration and on Saturdays, when we can, we open up for visits by the general public. A reminder to those who would like to visit but can't make it on the weekends, if you contact the Comox Air Force Museum and give us enough lead time we will do our best to be available during the week but please try and make it on the weekend.

Blueprints

Over the past month we have been working on the radio access panel and the access panel to the battery compartment. To do this we first take our blueprint and determine what materials are required to make the panel.

Old Frame

Once that is done we will start the project. In this case you can see that we have an old frame that we can use as a template.

Next we will cut out the panel and make it to the shape that we want.

New access panel

Next we will fit the new panel to the fuselage in the correct position. This will be done by dry fitting the panel, until we get it in the exact position and the correct shape that we want. This is to keep the skin as aerodynamic as possible.

Finally we will connect the hinges to the panel and fuselage and the doors will be primed and painted and we will move on to another job. In this picture you see that we don't have the hinges on yet. That will be another day.
